The
trip to lyon took us through the Rhone valley, land
of vineyards and hay. We followed the Rhone rive until
it met with the Saone River. Then we were in Lyon.

Located on the top of the Fourvière hill is the
Fourvière Basilica, which was built in the 19th
century in honor of the Virgin Mary. Below is the highlight
of the Old-Lyon district, the Saint-Jean Cathedral.
The cathedral was built during the 12th and 14th centuries.
Apparently, inside is one of Frances oldest astronomical
clocks. Unfortunately, my stomach alarm was ringing
too loud to go check it out.

Opposed
to the new town, which was hip with modern museums and
clubs, the group waked down the cobblestone Old-town
streets in search of a small restaurant willing to serve
fifty people. We eventually had to split up, but luck
would have it that the Pique Assiette on Rue de la Baleine
would serve sixteen of us. I highly recommend it for
its menu and prices.

After
dinner, the group found each other at a local internationalized
pub. I remember ordering a German beer at this English
pub in France. True tourist trade. Later, we were treated
to champagne to wash down the looming escargot the beers
didn't quite diminish.
